Box Score 2 The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team continued its winning ways on Tuesday, travelling to the campus of Birmingham Southern where it posted a pair of wins over South Region opponents. The Eagles notched 3-0 triumphs over Huntingdon College (25-20, 25-22, 25-12) and Birmingham Southern (25-18, 25-21, 25-20), upping their win streak to 12 matches while raising their overall record to 24-2.
Emory finished the BSC match with a .176 hitting effort (35-16—108) while holding the Panthers to just .035 (33-28—142), the 25th time this year it had outhit the opposition. Senior Leah Jacobs produced a team-high 10 kills and a .333 (10-3—21) attack percentage to pace team's offensive effort. It was Jacobs' sixth straight and 18th outing of the season with double-figure terminations. Sophomore Jessica Holler returned to the lineup after missing the last eight matches and contributed eight kills along with a team-high seven (0-7) total blocks. Holler's performance helped the Eagles to an 11-6 edge in total blocks. Junior setter Sydney Miles contributed a solid all-around match with 31 digs, 10 digs and five block assists. Senior Kate Bowman topped all players with 18 digs, with Emory closing out the affair with a 62-54 edge in that category.
In the opening match of the day, the Eagles got a glimpse of the future as the Emory coaching staff made good use of its bench. Sophomore Shannon Nugent and junior Ashley Crawford were credited with nine kills each, with Crawford hitting at an impressive .444 clip (9-1—18), and Nugent recording a .389 effort (9-2—18) while adding three total blocks. Freshman Victoria Lord rang up eight terminations while classmate Hannah Billings recorded 41 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Katelyn Green and sophomore Maggie Collins got into the act as well with six and five kills, respectively. Bowman topped the squad with 17 digs. The Eagles hit .258 (47-16—120) in the contest compared to the Hawks' .053 (24-19—95)
The Eagles return to action this Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 18-19) when they travel to the University of Chicago for the University Athletic Association Round Robin II.
