The No. 16 ranked Emory University men's tennis team is moving on in the UAA Championship bracket as the Eagles upended No. 10 WashU in the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seeded matchup Thursday morning at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the conference semifinals on Friday where they'll be pitted against No. 1 UChicago. Match start time is scheduled for 12:30 PM.
Emory opened conference action in Florida on Thursday by taking the doubles point to start competition against the Bears. Sophomores Ruilin Feng and Ajay Kartik secured a 6-4 win on court one before senior Dean Kamenev and junior Joshua Lai followed with a matching 6-4 result on court three to clinch the win.
As play moved into singles, the Eagles found clinching wins from the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 spots of the lineup.
Doubles tandem Daniel Kim and Matthew Johnstone put Emory on the brink of a win with Johnstone posting a 6-0, 6-2 result on court four and Kim turning in a 6-4, 6-2 line on court three. Junior Ryan Nash claimed the match clincher at the sixth position with his straight set decision, 6-0, 6-4.
When play was halted, Feng was leading on court one 6-4, 5-3 and Kamenev had forced a third set on three, 1-6, 6-4, 2-2.
