#12 Women's Tennis Upends #6 Johns Hopkins, 4-3, to Start Family Weekend

The No. 12 ranked Emory University women's tennis team earned a major win Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 win over No. 6 Johns Hopkins University at the WoodPEC in Atlanta, Georgia.

The visiting Blue Jays opened strong however as JHU took the doubles point to lead off the match, winning 6-3 and 7-6 (3) on courts one and three. The Eagles were able to avoid the doubles sweep though with senior Izzy Antanavicius and junior Yanire Marte coming through with a 6-1 verdict on court two.

In singles, four of the six matches were decided in straight sets with Marte and freshman Holyn Karp putting the Eagles on the board with their wins on courts four and six. Marte recorded a winning line of 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 position and Karp went 6-3, 6-3 on the No. 6 line.

Following JHU wins on courts two and five, Emory needed wins on the remaining two courts with Antanavicius and senior Emily Kantrovitz battling in three sets on courts one and three. Kantrovitz registered a winning score of 6-2, 6-7 (3), 6-3 at the top spot with Antanavicius pulling through with the match clincher at No. 3, going 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

The Eagles look to close out the weekend on another positive note with a matchup against Christopher Newport at 11:00 AM on Sunday. Prior to match, Emory will honor its three seniors Antanavicius, Kantrovitz and Iris Berman will a pre-match ceremony.
