Emory Athletics Weekly Preview: 3/9 - 3/15

Men's Basketball:

The Emory men's basketball team will be back in the WPEC for the Sweet 16 as they host Yeshiva on Friday afternoon for a chance to advance to the Elite Eight in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The team is coming off a thrilling overtime win against Roanoke in their NCAA Second Round matchup, beating the Maroons 83-81 thanks to a game-clinching three and block from junior Ethan Fauss in the final 10 seconds of overtime, who also put up a double-double on the night with 15 points and 15 rebounds. The senior duo of Ben Pearce and Jair Knight also shot for a combined 53 points on the night to help the Eagles advance.

Track and Field:
The Emory track and field team will head back to Birmingham, AL for the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend as Kelsey Coley, Henry Brandstadter and John Urciuoli all qualified for Emory.

The team is coming off their final regular season indoor meet as they competed at the Tufts Final Qualifier. Coley was the highlight for the Eagles as she won the 60m hurdles for the second week in a row with a time of 8.85 to qualify for NCAA Indoors. On the men's side, sophomore Ari Klasky also delivered a top-three performance in the shot put as he threw for 16.29m to take third.

Women's Golf:

The #1 Emory women's golf team is headed down to Savannah, GA for the Savannah Harbor Invitational this week, with rounds taking place Monday and Tuesday.

The Eagles are coming off a stellar showing at the Space Coast Classic two weeks ago as the team tied for fifth in a crowded field of Division I teams. Sophomore Zimo Li tied for first place in the individual standings, shooting a 210 (-6) despite adverse weather conditions during the final round.

Men's Golf:
No. 2 ranked Men's Golf will head to Pinehurst, NC for the Tiger Invitational while Parker Shimp, Dru Devata and Tim Richter take on the Hampden-Sydney Invitational.

The Eagles are coming off a successful start to the spring season, taking fourth place at the Savannah Invitational last Tuesday. Juniors Brady Lagendyk and Kevin Mu led the Eagles, with each of them shooting a 216 (E) to place 16th on the individual leaderboard.

Men's Tennis:

The #8 Emory men's tennis team is headed to Orlando this week to take on Northwood, Kaiser and Barry University.

The team is coming off a strong 5-2 win over Washington and Lee to begin outdoor play. The Eagles clinched the doubles point and all four of Emory's wins in singles were decided in straight sets.

Women's Tennis:
The #5 Emory women's tennis team will head to Hilton Head, SC and Savannah, GA this week to take on #2 WashU, SCAD – Savannah and #4 Wesleyan.

The Eagles are coming off a sixth-place finish at ITA Indoor Nationals as they fell to Wesleyan in the fifth place match 4-3. The Eagles clinched the doubles point as the matchup came down to the last singles match on No. 5 where freshman Holyn Karp fell to Wesleyan's Maria Natalia Leroy Garibay to give the Cardinals the win.

Baseball:
The Emory baseball team will stay at home this week as they face Wabash College on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.

The team is coming off a 3-1 week as they won their series against Middlebury and got a win against Oglethorpe in extra innings. The Eagles beat the Stormy Petrels 9-8 thanks to a Zach Hanson sac fly but dropped their first of three games against the Middlebury Panther. Emory would go on to win the other two games in the series as they beat the Panthers 16-15 in extra innings off a Mitchell Smallwood walk off single. The Eagles won 8-4 on Sunday to clinch the series as senior Adam Geller only allowed one earned run and struck out nine in seven innings for his third win of the season and junior Corey Goldstick put up a personal-best five runs batted in to secure the series.

Softball:
The #13 Emory softball team will return home to face Gettysburg College in a Tuesday doubleheader before hosting Lewis and Clark College and Pfeiffer for the Eagles Elite Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles are coming off a tough road trip at the NFCA Leadoff Classic as they went 1-6 on the tournament. The Eagles secured their lone win of the tournament against Maryville, beating the Scots 6-4 thanks to a two-run, walk off homer from Zoe Horning.
