Emory University seniors Ben Pearce and Adam Geller were chosen as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of March 2-9.
For men's basketball, Pearce averaged 26.0 points per game to lead the Eagles to a pair of NCAA tournament wins during the opening weekend. Pearce dropped 23 points on Friday in the team's 87-73 win over MUW before going for 29 points in the Eagles' 83-81 overtime win over Roanoke to advance to the Sweet 16. Pearce added 13 assists over the two wins, including eight on Saturday against the Maroons, and had the game-winning assist on Ethan Fauss' go-ahead three-pointer with 9.6 seconds left in overtime to topple Roanoke. Pearce continued to add to his legendary resume as well, reaching 2,000 career points on Saturday, and broke the Emory single season scoring record with his 29-point outing.
On the baseball diamond, Geller was outstanding Sunday morning as the Eagles defeated Middlebury College, 8-4, in the rubber game of the three-game weekend series. Geller worked seven strong innings of one-run ball to earn his third win and struck out a season-high nine batters.
