#13 Softball Falls to Mount Union and #4 Saint Mary's In Pair of 4-3 Losses

Box Score 1 The #13 ranked Emory softball team was dealt another pair of losses during their second day at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, falling to Mount Union 4-3 and to #4 Saint Mary's by the same deficit.

Game 1: Mount Union 4, Emory 3

The action started early as a single from MTU's Addy Antonetz brought teammate Sydney Mercer home to claim the 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
While Emory was unable to respond in the bottom of the first, they found home plate in their half of the second as Ellie Zerr scored on a throwing error to tie it 1-1.

The third inning would go scoreless, but MTU scored a trio of runs in the fourth thanks to a single up the middle and a pair of RBIs from Antontetz to make it 4-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles would respond with a run of their own as Lillian Ware smoked it out to left field for a solo home run to bring the score to 4-2.

With the fifth and MTU's half of the sixth going scoreless, the Eagles continued the fight as a single up the middle from junior Ella Janish brought sophomore Megan Sutton in for an unearned run to put Emory one run away from tying MTU.

While the Eagles tried to tie it in the seventh, they couldn't get it done as they fell to the Purple Raiders 4-3.

Game 2: Saint Mary's 4, Emory 3

Going up against the #4 team in the country, the Eagles trailed 3-1 at the end of 3 innings.

Freshman Allie Stevenson got the Eagles first run on the board in the second with an RBI to drive junior Ware home.

The Cardinals tacked on another run in the fifth inning to make the score 4-1, but the Eagles rallied in the visitor half of the sixth as Wittman had a two-run single to score senior Ashley Chu and Sutton, making it 4-3 going into the seventh.

Emory was able to put two more batters on base in their half of the seventh but couldn't push across the game tying run to make it a 4-3 ball game.

The Eagles will look to regroup tomorrow as they take on Depauw at 1:30 p.m. and Maryville at 3:30 p.m. to wrap up play at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus.
