The Emory University divers began their postseason competition on Friday with the NCAA Region 2 Championships held at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
With seven divers in action on the first day of the regional championships, the Eagles did not disappoint with six Eagles in prime position to secure a regional allocation.
The men started the afternoon on the 3-meter with sophomore Solly Berkenwald leading two Emory athletes in action. In the field of 22 divers, Berkenwald finished second overall at the end of 11 rounds with 517.30 as he trailed only Colorado College's Justin Toth who posted 544.30 to win the regional. Freshman Thomas Stone ended the day in eighth position with a mark of 455.50.
The day continued on the 1-meter board where Emory had five women in the field of 24.
Graduate student Ariana Khan shined for the Eagles with her regional win as she topped the field with a winning mark of 460.30. WashU's Shanze Karimi placed second at 445.35 while sophomore Maya Kriz finished third at 44.075.
Senior Ren Watt and sophomore Jacqueline St. Clair both recorded strong efforts as well on day one with Watt taking fourth with a score of 428.45 and St. Clair netting sixth place at 414.25. Sophomore Maddi Grant rounded out the Emory performers as she placed 14th at 380.80.
The NCAA Regionals continue on Saturday with the men's 1-meter competition getting underway at 12:00 PM ET followed by the women's 3-meter event.
