The Emory University swimming & diving teams concluded their regular seasons on Saturday as the Emory February Invitational ended in Atlanta. Prior to the third and final session of the weekend, the Eagles paid tribute to their 25-member graduating class with a special on-deck ceremony.
In a final opportunity to record national qualifying times for next month's NCAA Championships, the Eagles added 17 NCAA B cuts over the final two sessions on Saturday.
For the women's team, the Eagles had eight of the national standards turned in on the day. Graduate student Sammi Thiele posted a 4:25.78 in the 400 IM to start the day and was followed by five first place effort that resulted in a B cut from sophomore Elodie Mitchell in the 100 Fly (55.79), sophomore Allison Greeneway in the 100 Breast (1:03.98), senior Penny Celtnieks in the 100 Backstroke (55.29), junior Emily Noll in the 200 Backstroke (2:00.51) and Sophia Joos in the 200 Breaststroke (2:16.86).
Additionally, NCAA B Cuts came from freshmen Ellis McGraw in the 200 Breaststroke (2:19.66) and Lauren Opitz in the 200 Fly (2:04.67).
On the men's team, sophomore Satya Agashiwala had the team's first NCAA B cut mark with his time of 48.35 in the 100 Fly and was joined by top swims from sophomore Colin Zexter in the 100 Backstroke (49.01), senior Jeff George (1:46.13) and freshman Quinn Nelson (1:47.19) in the 200 Backstroke, junior Hayden Tupper (44.46) in the 100 Free, freshman Ryan Schnur (2:00.77) in the 200 Breaststroke, and freshman Anthony Simmons Jr. (1:48.82) and sophomore Michael Kaiser (1:49.09) in the 200 Fly.
Graduate student Crow Thorsen had the final NCAA b Cut of the day with his 1:49.27 mark during the time trials of the 200 Fly.
With the regular season meets concluded, the Emory divers will the next ones in the pool as the Eagles host the NCAA Regionals next Friday and Saturday, February 27-28, in Atlanta.
