The Eagles had another excellent day at the ITA South Regional, dropping only one match on the day to set the stage for an all-Eagle singles semifinal and doubles final.
Ajay Kartik and Sammy Nieder got the team started on the doubles side, delivering a 6-3 win over Methodist before defeating their teammates Daniel Kim and Joshua Lai in the semifinal 9-8 (9-7). Kim and Lai defeated a duo from Sewanee 6-0 in the quarterfinal prior to that matchup. Juno Pethe and Mitchell Deames posted the same 6-0 result against their quarterfinal opponents from Sewanee while Matthew Johnstone and Aaditt Rishi beat their competition 6-2, sending both pairs to the semifinal. In that match, Pethe and Deames came out on top, winning 8-2 to establish an all-Emory doubles final.
In singles, Kim and Nieder got the ball rolling as Kim went 6-1, 6-1 and Nieder went 6-2, 6-0 to set up a quarterfinal match between the two Eagles. Kim came out on top, winning 6-3, 6-3 over Nieder to advance to the all-Emory semifinal match against Kartik. Johnstone and Kartik each delivered a 6-3, 6-2 result and a 6-3, 6-3 decision respectively in the round of 16 before meeting in the quarterfinals where Kartik advanced, beating Johnstone 6-2, 6-3 to move onto the semifinal. Lai and Ryan Nash also won their round of 16 matches to send them to the quarterfinal where Lai won in a 10-7 super set to move onto the all-Emory semifinal against Deames. Rishi fell in his round of 16 matchup against Samuel Schroerlucke, but Deames beat Anghel 6-2, 6-3 to meet Schroerlucke in the quarterfinal. In that matchup, Deames won 6-2, 7-5 to move onto tomorrow's semifinal match against Lai.
In flight B, Andy Zhang won his quarterfinal match 6-0, 6-3 to advance to Sunday's semifinal. In flight B doubles, Zhang and teammate Alec Anghel defeated their opponents from Sewanee in the semifinal before beating Lewis and Smith from Sewanee in the final match 7-5.
The Eagles will be back on the court tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. for the all-Emory singles semifinal and doubles final matches.
