Efe Comu from the Emory University men's tennis team was honored Wednesday afternoon as he was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Second Team.
This is Comu's third straight selection to the Academic All-America Second Team and first as a member of the Eagles after previously being honored while playing at Rollins College in both 2023 and 2024. He is the 13th player in Emory men's tennis history to be chosen for the honor and the ninth Eagle to earn the distinction for the 2024-25 academic calendar, bringing Emory's all-time total to 236 in its history.
Comu was a standout for the Eagles in his first season wearing Blue & Gold as he helped the team to a third place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships and to an appearance in the national team quarterfinals. Comu collected 17 singles wins, the second-most on the team, as he went 17-12 including a 10-7 mark during dual matches and was 11-13 in doubles matches. He earned All-UAA Second Team honors in singles and was an Honorable Mention performer in doubles. In the fall, he claimed the ITA South Regional singles crown and reached the quarterfinals in doubles before advancing to the singles quarterfinals at the ITA Cup. In the spring, he was one of two players to represent the Eagles in the singles draw at the NCAA Individual Championships.
The CSC Academic All-America team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a key member of their respective teams, maintain at least a 3.50 grade point average and be of sophomore standing or higher.
Comu, along with Christian Liew, were nominated from men's tennis nominated and honored on the CSC Academic All-District list which was announced last month. Select athletes were then chosen to be placed on the Academic All-America ballot and voted on by College Sports Communicators and Sports Information Directors across all Division III institutions.
