Members of the Emory University men's tennis team returned to the courts of the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, California on Friday as the draws of the NCAA Individual Championships got underway.
In singles, freshman
Ruilin Feng and graduate student
Efe Comu represented the Eagles in the draw. Feng grabbed a straight set win in the opening round with a 6-3, 6-2 over Gustavus Adolphus' Marco Siviero but Comu fell in his match, dropping a straight set decision to Nicholas Chen from Williams, 4-6, 5-7.
In the second round, Feng was pitted against Aidan Drover-Mattinen from RPI. The Emory rookie continued his momentum with an opening set win, 6-4, but ultimately dropped the next two sets by 2-6, 3-6 margins to see his singles run come to an end.
A couple hours later, Feng was back on the courts with teammate
Christian Liew as the duo battled the top seed out of Denison for the remaining spot in the quarterfinals of the doubles draw. After dropping the opening set in a tiebreak, Feng & Liew responded with a 6-3 win in the second set. However, the Big Red tandem flipped the score in the decisive third set to move on by a 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3 final line.
