The Emory University men's tennis program downed the Averett Cougars on Saturday morning in the second round matchup of the 2025 NCAA Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. The Eagles earned a first round bye while the Cougars defeated Asbury on Friday morning to reach the second round.
The duo of graduate student
Efe Comu and freshman
Ajay Kartik earned the first win in doubles for the Eagles on court two despite falling early in the match. The tandem fought their way back to a 3-3 tie in the set before taking the final three points to close their match.
Finishing right behind them were teammates
Christian Liew and
Ruilin Feng who clinched the doubles point with their win on court one. The duo also fell behind early but made a comeback to take their match with a 6-3 score. On court three, juniors
Dean Kamenev and
John Lasanajak were ahead in their match on court three, 5-4, before the clinching point was won.
All singles matches started close with Comu being the first to break away and take another point for the Eagles. He finished first in singles with a 6-2, 6-0 decision on the third court. Following behind him was Feng on court two who dominated his singles match earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory for the third point of the match.
Kamenev and Liew were both fighting close battles in their second set with both looking to clinch the final point for the Eagles. On court one, Kamenev earned the final point taking his match with a 6-3, 6-3 decision to send Emory to the third round on Sunday afternoon. Liew had taken his first set with a 6-2 line and was winning his second set, 5-3 before the match ended.
The Eagles will compete in the third round on Sunday afternoon and will face the winner of Redlands and Sewanee in the match.
