The Emory University track and field program hosted their third consecutive outdoor meet of the season on Saturday afternoon.
Kicking off things on the track for the men was the 400m Dash with graduate student
Dawit Dean taking the top spot with a time of 48.13. Teammate
Ryan McGonigle followed with a second place, 49.41 run in the event. Senior
Jackson Price later ran a 21.88 in the 200m dash for a top-five finish.
Four Eagles finished in the top-10 in the 800m run with senior
Marcus Cheema taking the top finish for Emory with a second place time of 1:54.12. In the hurdles, freshman
Ben Olvey finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.05 followed by a fifth place finish from teammate
Sebastian Kou. Kou later competed in the 400m hurdles finishing sixth with a time of 55.69 while teammates
Ethan Lu (5
th, 54.95) and
Jason Huang (10
th, 59.61) also finished in the top 10.
In the distance events, graduate student
Ethan Thompson led the 1500m run with a second place finish (3:57.61) followed by fourth and fifth place finishes from
Carsen Valenta and
Nikhil Makker respectively. Makker then finished first in the 3000m run (9:02.03) followed by a third place finish from freshman
Ryan Van de Berghe (9:09.76).
The 4x100m Relay group of
Sam Ryba, Henry Brandstadter, Caleb Bunch and Price took the top spot in the event running a 41.07 to kick off the relays. Ryba and Price later teamed up with McGonigle and Dean for a first place finish in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.73.
The Eagles saw three top finishes in field events on Saturday with Brandstadter taking first in the long jump (7.40m),
Sam Gouvalaris finishing first in the triple jump (13.91m) and
Chris Summey finishing things in the javelin (53.27m). Other Eagles with top-five finishes were
Geoff Point-du-Jour in the high jump,
Steven Ditelberg in the pole vault and
Ari Klasky in the shot put.
Starting on the track for the women was junior
Madison Tiaffay who took home a first place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.28. Teammate
Rowan Miller finished right behind with a second place, 2:15.03 run while
Payton Fleming and
Sophia Powell took fourth and fifth respectively. Also finishing first for the Eagles later in the 400m hurdles was senior
Caroline Hansen with a time of 1:06.04. Teammates
Izzie Thompson and
Melayna Pettigrew also finished in the top-five in the event.
Four Eagles saw top-10 finishes in the 200m dash with graduate student
Eva Carchidi leading the way running a 24.24 for a second place finish. Later in the day, senior
Dashiel Tao Harris also finished second in the 400m dash while sophomore
Hannah Riley finished fourth with a 57.84 mark.
In the 1500m run, the Eagles took second through sixth in the event with senior
Liesl Scherrer taking second with a 4:41.73. Senior
Maura Dianno later finished eighth in the 100m dash (12.47) while sophomore
Cameron Gupta finished the individual track events with a first place, 11:58.62 run in the 3000m steeplechase.
The group of
Nikki Boon, Jada Kenner, Audrey Johnson and Carchidi kicked off the relays taking first in the 4x100m relay with a time of 45.97 breaking the program record. Following them was the group of
Davis Johnson,
Payton Sullivan,
Sydney Holden and Fleming who finished third in the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:07.97.
Senior
Sarah Fineman led things off for the Eagles in the field events taking first in the shot put with a mark of 13.09m. Teammates
Jeanette Hydukovich and
Janelle Bobb also competed in the event taking fourth and sixth respectively. In the triple jump, teammates A. Johnson (2
nd, 11.52m),
Elsa Bildtsen (3
rd, 11.00m) and
Rithika Prabhuram (4
th, 10.51m) all finished in the top-five.
Other top finishes for the Eagles came from rookies
Anna Jennings in the long jump (4
th, 5.43m),
Abigail Roberts in the hammer throw (3
rd, 43.51m),
Erin Makhanian in the pole vault (3
rd, 3.45m) and Hydukovich in the discus (1
st, 40.57m).
The Eagles will hit the road next weekend competing at the Lee Fastbreak Invitational and Berry Field Day on April 11 and April 12.
