The Emory University men's track and field started competition at the UAA Outdoor Championships on Saturday afternoon at Icahn Stadium in New York, New York.
The Eagles are in fifth following the opening day of competition with 18 points while Carnegie Mellon holds down the top spot with 73 points.
Senior
Jackson Price set the pace for the day breaking the program record in the 200m dash prelims with a time of 20.95. Also qualifying for the 200m finals were teammates
Henry Brandstadter and
Sam Ryba who finished second and fourth respectively. The trio, along with teammate
Caleb Bunch, qualified for the 100m dash finals earlier in the day.
Senior
Dawit Dean took home a first place finish in the 800m run prelims alongside teammates
Scott Masterson, Marcus Cheema and
Spencer Watry. Dean also qualified in the 400m dash with teammates
Ryan McGonigle and
Joshua Han.
Freshman
Ethan Lu continues to dominate in the hurdles taking first in the 110m hurdles prelims to qualify for the finals. Teammates
Ben Olvey and
Sebastian Kou also qualified with their second and sixth place finishes. Lu and Kou later took home qualifying finishes in the 400m hurdles prelims taking second and fourth respectively.
Finishing the track competition was the 4x800m relay group of
Ben Zamler, Nikhil Makker, Ryan Van de Berghe and
Chris Belz who earned points for the Eagles with their fifth place, 7:55.14 finish.
In the hammer throw, the freshman duo of
Tyler Edwards (44.50m) and
Ari Klasky (41.11m) earned points for Emory finishing fifth and seventh in the event. Klasky later took home a fourth place finish in the shot put helping the Eagles with more points.
Junior
Steven Ditelberg finished the scoring for Emory on Saturday finishing sixth in the pole vault with a mark of 4.53.
The Eagles will conclude competition on Sunday, April 27 with the first event slated to begin at 8:30 AM.
