The No. 6 ranked Emory men's tennis team (13-5) concluded its regular season on Sunday afternoon, taking on the #17 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The two programs met at a neutral site in San Antonio, Texas looking to gain some momentum heading into the postseason. The Eagles got just what they needed on Sunday, earning a 4-0 shutout win over the Sagehens.
The Eagles opened the match taking two of the three doubles matches to secure their first point. The unflappable duo of freshman
Ruilin Feng and sophomore
Christian Liew won their match on court one once again, this time by a score of 7-5. The two are now 13-1 against Division III competition this year. Graduate student
Charley Force and junior
John Lasanajak earned a win playing on court three, by a score of 6-2. Graduate student
Efe Comu and freshman
Ajay Kartik fell on court two, 3-6.
Playing to clinch, the Eagles rattled off three quick singles wins shortly after to secure a victory over the Sagehens. Comu earned a win in straight sets in the No. 2 position, winning by a score of 6-1 and 6-3. After a slow start to his outdoor season, Comu has now won six straight matches to carry him into the postseason.
Playing alongside him on court three, Liew picked up a win in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1. The win was his second of the weekend. Kartik took down the other singles win for Emory, winning, 6-3 and 6-3, to lock up the fourth and match-clinching point. The freshman is now 8-2 this season in dual matches.
Feng, Force, and Lasanajak all won their opening sets as well, but their matches were suspended after the Eagles had secured a win.
Emory finishes the regular season at 13-5 with the win. The Eagles now shift their attention to the UAA Championships, which will take place this week over the course of three days in Altamonte Springs, Florida. They'll start on Friday, April 25
th and wrap up on Sunday, April 27
th. The seedings for the event will be revealed later this week.
