The Emory University track and field team finished their competition for the weekend on Saturday afternoon at the Lee Fastbreak Invitational and Berry Field Day.
In Cleveland, Tennessee at Lee University, senior
Marcus Cheema was the lone competitor for the men finishing 16
th in the 800m run with a time of 1:53.40. Running in the 800m for the women were sophomore
Payton Fleming (18
th, 2:18.96) and freshman
Rowan Miller (31
st, 2:21.73). In the 3000m steeplechase, teammates
Cameron Gupta and
Davis Johnson finished fifth and sixth respectively to close out competition.
At Berry Field Day for the women, graduate student
Nikki Boon took home a first place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.21 followed by a fourth place finish from teammate
Melayna Pettigrew (15.56). Following the 100m hurdles was the 400m dash with junior
Sydney Holden (6
th, 59.87) and senior
Samantha Glass (7
th, 59.94) both taking top-10 finishes.
Later in the afternoon, senior
Andrea McPherson took home a 21
st place finish in the 100m dash with a time of 12.88 followed by a top-10 finish in the 800m run from junior
Payton Sullivan (2:25.47). The 4x400m relay team of Holden, Pettigrew, Glass and
Sophia Deeney finished the running events with a second place finish and a time of 4:04.45.
In the field events, the trio of
Erin Makhanian (2
nd, 3.37m),
Emerson Sobich (5
th, 3.07m) and
Sammy Ramacher (8
th, 2.92m) all finished in the top 10 in the pole vault followed by sixth and eighth place finishes in the high jump from Boon and
Anna Jennings respectively. Ending the jumps was Jennings and sophomore
Elsa Bildtsen in the long jump taking fourth and seventh.
Five Eagles saw top-10 finishes in throwing events with senior
Sarah Fineman finishing fourth in the shot put with a mark of 12.66m followed by an 11.45m mark from freshman
Jeanette Hydukovich. The duo later competed in the discus with Hydukovich finishing fifth (38.92m) and Fineman taking eighth (36.52m). Finishing the events for the women was sophomore
Mable Mutumwa who took fourth in the javelin with a distance of 38.25m.
For the men on the track, sophomore
Sebastian Kou kicked things off with a seventh place finish in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.49. Also taking a top-10 finish was freshman
Joshua Han (6
th, 49.92) in the 400m dash and senior
Sam Ryba (5
th, 10.60) in the 100m dash. Finishing the running events was the group of
Jason Huang, Geoff Point-du-Jour, Chris Belz and Kou in the 4x400m relay taking seventh with a time of 3:30.34.
Freshman
Sam Gouvalaris led the way for the Eagles in the field events taking first in the long jump with a mark of 6.61m. Teammate
Steven Ditelberg also took home a first place finish in the pole vault with a height of 4.60m. The duo of
Evan Tuckley and
Jack Adler also took home top-10 finishes in the pole vault.
Later in the javelin, junior
Chris Summey (53.28m) and freshman
Alexander Osterman (48.69m) took fifth and eighth respectively while teammates Point-du-Jour (1.86m) and freshman
Kevin Zhong (1.81m) finished fifth and eighth in the high jump. Finishing the day was freshman
Ari Klasky who threw a 42.08m mark in the discus.
The Eagles will head down the road next weekend to compete at the Georgia Tech Invitational beginning on April 18 in Atlanta.
