The Emory University track and field program sent athletes to two meets on Friday afternoon to start the weekend. The distance runners traveled to Cleveland, Tennessee to compete at the Lee Fastbreak Invitational while other athletes headed north to Berry, Georgia for the Berry Field Day.
At the Lee Fastbreak Invitational, junior
Madison Tiaffay started things for the women taking a sixth place finish in the 1500m run with a time of 4:29.15 competing against primarily Division I and II competition. Also finishing in the top 20 was sophomore
Payton Fleming who ran a 4:41.69 followed by a 26
th place finish from freshman
Sophia Powell.
In the 5000m run, senior
Liesl Scherrer had the best finish for the Eagles with a 12
th place, 17:08.75 run. Teammates
Elizabeth Csikai (28
th, 17:52.93) and
Elise Picard (33
rd, 18:06.13) also competed in the event.
For the men, teammates
Scott Masterson (24
th, 3:56.16),
John Urciuoli (29
th, 3:59.90) and
Ben Zamler (48
th, 4:11.78) all competed in the 1500m run followed by top-50 finishes in the 5000m run from juniors
Nikhil Makker (15:06.50) and
Matthew McClure (15:16.47).
At the Berry Field Day, freshmen
Izzie Thompson (1:08.29) and
Ryleigh O'Donnell both took home top-15 finishes in the 400m hurdles to start the day followed by an 18
th place finish from sophomore
Morgan Cox in the 1500m run. Freshman
Arden Gray finished the running events for the women with a seventh place, 18:41.27 mark in the 5000m run.
In the field events, sophomore
Dijaye Carpenter kicked things off with a third place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.60m. Four Eagles competed in the hammer throw with freshman
Abigail Roberts leading the way with a fourth place finish (40.06m). Teammates
Kylie Hanson (16
th, 33.29m),
Sarah Watson (24
th, 30.11m) and
Alexa Kondas (25
th, 27.13m) all took home top-25 finishes in the event.
On the track for the men was freshman
Carsen Valenta who finished sixth in the 1500m running a 4:02.06. Teammates
Turner Goetsch (4:03.87),
Ryan Van de Berghe (4:04.34) and
Kirin Karver (4:11.93) also competed in the event finishing in the top 25.
In the field, teammates
Jason Bright and
Ryan Coleman finished in a tie for eighth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.90m.
Tomorrow, April 12, the Eagles will compete in more events at both the Lee Fastbreak Invitational and Berry Field Day.
