Four Eagles Tabbed as UAA Athletes of the Week

Four Emory University student athletes were selected as University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for their performances during the week of February 24 – March 2.

Freshman Solly Berkenwald swept the regional titles this past weekend at the NCAA Division III Region 2 Diving Championships in Grinnell, IA. Berkenwald qualified for nationals with his efforts as he won the 3-meter event on Friday with a score of 551.85 and then recorded a score of 519.85 on Saturday to win the 1-meter. This is Berkenwald's seventh weekly honor this season.

Junior Emily Kantrovitz went 3-0 at No. 1 singles to lead the #5 ranked Emory Eagles to a third-place finish at the ITA National Team Indoor Championships this weekend in Memphis, Tenn. Kantrovitz earned one of the decisive points on Friday as Emory toppled #3 Wesleyan, 4-3, as she won her match in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. On Saturday, Kantrovitz was the lone Eagle to win a singles point against #1 Chicago as she beat Sylwia Mikos 7-6, 6-3 and on Sunday, she earned a win against Marissa Markey of #2 Pomona-Pitzer, 6-2, 6-3, as Emory won 4-0. In doubles, Kantrovitz secured a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles with Dakota Fordham against Wesleyan, 6-3, but fell to Chicago's Mikos tandem, 6-3. Her and Fordham were leading 5-2 at No. 1 doubles on Sunday vs. the Sagehens before the match was halted. This is Kantrovitz's fourth career weekly award and second this season.

Sophomore Aidan Conley had a big week at the plate as he led the Emory Eagles to a 4-0 record against LaGrange and Middlebury. Conley went 8-for-13 with three extra base hits and drove in seven runs across his four starts. He added a team-leading 10 runs scored to go along with team-highs in walks (5) and stolen bases (2). He had back-to-back three-hit games, his first two of the season, against LC and Middlebury while collecting all seven of his RBIs in those two games. He added his first career home run as well in the win Tuesday night against Panthers. This marks Conley's first weekly recognition of the season and second in his career.

Freshman Ruilin Feng continues to stay red-hot, earning a couple more wins this weekend to garner his fourth weekly award of his rookie season. Playing in the No. 2 position, Feng helped lift the Eagles to a win over #20 Carnegie Mellon with a straight set win over Raghav Jangbahadur (6-4, 7-5). He added a couple of doubles wins over the weekend as well, winning on court one against Covenant alongside fellow rookie Ajay Kartik before winning his match on court two against the Tartans alongside Christian Liew.
