The Emory University track and field program closed the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Saturday afternoon with the final events of the meet. Following the conclusion of the day, the Eagles celebrated the 36 seniors and their contribution to the program.
The day started strong with the 3000m run for the women with sophomore
Elise Picard taking second with a time of 10:36.11 followed by a third place, 10:46.38 run from freshman
Avery McAdams. Also competing in a distance event was sophomore
Morgan Cox who finished 12
th in the 1500m Open running a 5:12.79.
Freshman
Melayna Pettigrew followed with an eighth place finish in the 100m Hurdles qualifiers to later take fourth in the finals with a time of 15.38. In the 100m dash, teammates
Eva Carchidi (5
th, 12:03) and
Jada Kenner (7
th, 12.11) both qualified for the finals later taking third and sixth respectively.
Teammates
Amaya Grant and
Sydney Holden both took home top-10 finishes in the 400m dash followed by senior
Madison Tiaffay (2
nd, 2:11.45) and junior
Luna McCauley (4
th, 2:12.71) competing in the 800m run.
Later in the day, teammates
Kaya Binetti, Dashiel Tao Harris, Audrey Johnson and Carchidi took home a first place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 46.78 while the group of
Maura Dianno, Kylie Hanson, Paige Murdock and
Samantha Glass taking second in the 4x200m relay.
In field events, sophomore
Mable Mutumwa kicked things off with a first place finish in the javelin with a distance of 37.55m. Fellow sophomore
Dijaye Carpenter followed with a top-10 finish in the long jump (5.14m) while senior
Sarah Fineman (3
rd, 12.84m) and freshman
Jeanette Hydukovich (9
th, 11.68m) both competed in the shot put.
Rounding things out were teammates
Erin Makhanian,
Hannah Riley,
Sammy Ramacher, and
Emmy Sobich competing in the pole vault.
The Emory men had three individual event winners with freshman
Parker Carrus kicking things off with a first place finish in the 3000m run with a time of 9:15.29. Sophomore
Theodore Drye also took home first in the 400m dash running a 48.02 while graduate student
Dawit Dean followed with a first place, 1:51.00 run in the 800m run.
Early in the morning, senior
Justin Whitney kicked things off with a second place run in the 10,000m while senior
Caleb Bunch took sixth in the 100 qualifying. Closing out the distance events for the day was junior
Lucas Moskovitz who finished fifth in the 1500m Open running a 4:05.18.
Teammates
Ben Olvey and
Ethan Lu both competed in the 110m Hurdles qualifying for the finals with their prelim times. They later finished second and sixth respectively in the finals. Later competing in the 100m dash prelims were senior
Jackson Price and junior
Henry Brandstadter who qualified for the finals later taking fifth and eighth in the event.
Starting the relays was the 4x100m relay group of
Sam Ryba, Joshua Han, Brandstadter and Price who took first with their time of 41.15. Later in the day, the 4x800m relay group of
Turner Goetsch,
Ethan Thompson,
Carsen Valenta, and
Nikhil Maker finished third running an 8:05.15.
On the field, teammates
Steven Ditelberg (4
th, 4.30m) and
Evan Tuckley (5
th, 3.85m) both competed in the pole vault followed by a fifth place finish from freshman
Ari Klasky in the shot put (13.88m).
Finishing the day with top-10 finishes were freshmen
Ohene Dah and
Sam Gouvalaris finishing ninth and 10
th respectively in the long jump.
The Eagles will be back in Atlanta on Saturday, April 5 for the Emory Dooley Elite Meet.
