The Emory University track and field program opened the first full day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet on Friday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Eagles were led by graduate student
Nikki Boon who finished competition in the heptathlon with a national record breaking performance. On Friday, she finished the event taking first in the long jump, javelin and 800m run to secure the first place finish. Her score of 5,638 breaks the previous national record of 5,471 set in 2021.
Also competing in the field for the women was freshman
Jeanette Hydukovich who took home a second place finish in the discus with a mark of 39.98m. Fellow freshman
Abigail Roberts also took a top-10 finish later in the hammer throw with a distance of 43.13m.
In the jumps, teammates
Caroline Hansen (4
th, 11.63m),
Amaya Grant (5
th, 11.50m) and
Audrey Johnson (7
th, 11.29m) all finished in the top 10 in the triple jump while freshman
Anna Jennings finished the field events with a 12
th place finish in the high jump.
Freshman
Izzie Thompson opened up the running events with a fifth place finish in the 400m hurdles followed by a seventh place finish in the 200m dash by senior
Kaya Binetti. It was a day for the rookies with
Davis Johnson finishing second in the 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:21.68.
Seven Eagles took home top-10 placements in the 1500m Invitational with senior
Madison Tiaffay leading the pack with a first place, 4:28.77 run. In the 5000m open, senior
Ellie Long ran a 21:42.81 in her first event of the outdoor season while teammates
Elizabeth Csikai (18:20.26) and freshman
Arden Gray (19:12.47) took 12
th and 16
th respectively in the 5000m Invitational to end the day.
In the 4x400m relay, the group of Johnson,
Jada Kenner,
Eva Carchidi and
Dashiel Tao Harris led the Eagles with a third place finish running a 3:46.96.
Leading the way for the men was freshman
Ari Klasky who broke yet another program record during his rookie season. He threw a distance of 46.45m in the discus to break the program record and take a first place finish. Also competing in throws was sophomore
Tyler Edwards who finished 10
th in the javelin (44.88m) and hammer throw (43.79m).
In the jumps, the freshman duo of
Sam Gouvalaris and
Ryan Coleman took home third and seventh place finishes in the triple jump while fellow freshman
Kevin Zhong rounded things out in the high jump (10
th, 1.90m).
Starting out the running events for the day was senior
William Gossett who finished sixth in the 400m hurdles running a 56.82. Following him with top-10 finishes in the 200m dash were teammates
Jackson Price (3
rd, 21.42),
Theodore Drye (4
th, 21.50) and
Henry Brandstadter (5
th, 21.50).
Five more Eagles followed in the 1500m Invitational with top-10 placements while graduate student
Scott Masterson took the top time out of Emory runners with a time of 3:55.37. Senior
Marcus Cheema followed right behind taking third with a time of 3:55.54. Rounding out the individual events was junior
Nikhil Makker taking eighth in the 5000m Invitational running a 15:19.51.
In the 4x400m relay, the group of
Joshua Han, Ryan McGonigle, Ethan Lu and
Dawit Dean finished third in the competition with a time of 3:16.50.
The Eagles will conclude the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet tomorrow, March 29 with the first event slated to begin at 9:15 AM.
