The Emory University track and field program competed their first meet on the new outdoor track during the Emory Spring Break Classic on Friday afternoon.
The Eagles competed a number of events with junior
Luna McCauley leading the way with a first place finish in the 1500m invitational. Nine other Eagles competed in the event for the women with sophomore
Payton Fleming (4:47.11) and freshmen
Rowan Miller (4:48.12),
Davis Johnson (4:48.12) and
Sophia Powell (4:48.20) all finishing in the top 10.
More top 10 finishes came for the women in the 400m hurdles with freshman
Melayna Pettigrew continuing her impressive rookie season with a seventh place finish running a 1:05.85. Senior
Caroline Hansen followed behind with a time of 1:05.93 good for a ninth place finish. Senior
Andrea McPherson was the final individual competitor on the track finishing the 200m Dash with a 26.84 mark.
The 4x400m Relay team of
Sydney Holden,
Kaya Binetti,
Sophia Deeney and
Samantha Glass picked up a third place finish in the lone relay event of the day. The group crossed the line with a time of 4:00.54 for the bronze.
On the field, seven throwers competed in the hammer throw with senior
Kylie Hanson taking the top mark for the Eagles with a 38.65m distance. Freshmen
Janelle Bobb (32.87m),
Sarah Watson (32.95m) and
Jeanette Hydukovich (30.57) as well as sophomore
Mable Mutumwa (32.10m) also finished in the top 50 in the event.
Hanson later competed in the javelin finishing in 10th with a mark of 25.97m while freshman
Anna Jennings finished competition for the women with a 16
th place tie in the high jump with a height of 1.45m.
Kicking off things on the track for the men was freshman
Ethan Lu in the 400m Hurdles taking ninth with a time of 55.58. Sophomore
Theodore Drye followed in the 200m Dash running a 21.94 for an 11
th place finish.
Four Eagles saw competition in the 1500m Invitational with sophomore
John Urciuoli taking the top spot for Emory with a time of 4:00.76 for an eighth place finish. Junior
Nikhil Makker (4:30.41), and seniors
Turner Goetsch (4:04.14) and
Ben Zamler (4:08.45) also finished in the top 20 in the event.
In the 5000m Open, senior
Justin Whitney ran a 16:09.24 taking home a 16
th place finish while graduate student
Ethan Thompson (14:48.85, 2
nd), senior
Matthew McClure (15:14.61, 8
th) junior
Lucas Moskovitz (15:46.97) and freshman
Parker Carrus (16:1.62, 31
st) finished individual competition on the track in the 5000m Invitational.
The 4x400m Relay group of
Joshua Han, Ryan McGonigle, Chris Belz and
Sam Ryba saw a seventh place finish in the event with a time of 3:20.84 to close out track events.
In the field, junior
Christopher Summey looked for a strong start to the outdoor season opening with a seventh place finish in the javelin with a mark of 51.11m while teammate
Alexander Osterman followed with a mark of 42.34m.
The Eagles will have a number of competitors on day two of the Emory Spring Break Classic which will begin 9:15 AM.
