The Emory University men's track and field program took home a second place finish at the 2025 UAA Indoor Championships after an impressive day of competition on Sunday afternoon.
The competition took place in Chicago, Illinois at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse where the Eagles finished second with 142.5 points. Host, Chicago, took the top spot with 164 points while Carnegie Mellon finished third with 100.5 points.
Emory saw eight All-UAA finishers on Sunday afternoon, three UAA individual champions and another UAA and program record broken.
The first individual champion on the track side came from junior
Henry Brandstadter in the 60m finals where he ran a time of 6.89. Senior
Sam Ryba finished in third in the event with a time of 6.95 for All-UAA honors while teammate
Jackson Price earned points in the 60m dash with his fourth place finish.
Price later followed with an individual title of his own taking first in the 200m finals with a time of 22.00 followed by an All-UAA finish from Brandstadter running a 22.33.
Graduate student
Dawit Dean dominated in the 800m finals with a first place, UAA and program record breaking time of 1:50.97. Teammates
Spencer Watry and
Ryan McGonigle also scored points for Emory in the event with fourth and sixth place finishes respectively. Watry, along with teammates
Scott Masterson and
Marcus Cheema also scored points in the mile event to start the day.
The duo of freshman
Ethan Lu and sophomore
Sebastian Kou later competed in the 60m hurdles finals finishing fourth and seventh followed by sixth and eighth place finishes from freshman
Joshua Han and Kou in the 400m finals.
Rounding out the track events was the 4x400m relay group of Dean, McGonigle, Han and Kou who finished third with a time of 3:23.86.
In the field events, it was a day for the rookies with
Sam Gouvalaris starting things off with an All-UAA finish in the triple jump with a distance of 14.33m. Teammate
Ari Klasky took home his second All-UAA finish of the meet with a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 14.97m.
The Eagles will travel to last chance qualifiers next weekend before traveling to Rochester, NY for the NCAA Indoor Championships on March 14 and 15.
