The No. 3 ranked Emory University women's tennis team earned another win on the West Coast late Monday night as the Eagles defeated the No. 22 ranked University of Redlands, 6-1, in Redlands, California.
With rain in the forecast on Tuesday, the match was moved up one day to be played under the lights on Redlands campus. Playing on the second day of a back-to-back did not phase the Eagles as Emory won its ninth match of the spring and its third in a row.
Once again, Emory's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles pairings led the way as the Eagles claimed another doubles point. Junior combo of Izzy Antanavicius and Iris Berman won on court two with a 7-5 decision while senior Eliza McPherron and sophomore Yanire Marte collected a 6-2 result on court three.
With a 1-0 lead in tow, Emory rode the momentum into singles and seized control of the match with wins on five of the six courts.
Four of the five victories came via straight sets with Marte winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3, McPherron posting a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, graduate student Dakota Fordham blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 5 line and sophomore Riyah Dugar winning 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 in her first appearance this spring.
Berman rounded out the wins for the Eagles on Monday with superset tiebreaker decision on court No. 2, 5-7, 6-0, 10-3.
With two wins already secured in California, the Eagles will look to end their spring break trip on a high note as they'll next take on No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday, March 14th starting at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.
