The Emory University men's track and field team started competition at the UAA Championships at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse in Chicago, Illinois.
After the first day of competition, the Eagles sit in second place with a score of 42.5. Chicago currently sits in first with 55 points while Carnegie Mellon holds down the third spot with 39 points.
Emory saw four All-UAA finishes on Saturday and two UAA records broken in the 60m dash.
Junior Henry Brandstadter opened things up with an individual title in the long jump with a 7.26m mark. Teammates Sam Gouvalaris and Kofi Igyan finished fifth and seventh in the event respectively.
Brandstadter also took home an All-UAA finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.99m. Senior Geoff Point-du-Jour and freshman Kevin Zhong both notched a height of 1.89m in the event to follow Brandstadter. Finishing the field events for the day was freshman Ari Klasky who earned his first All-UAA recognition in the weight throw with a distance of 15.60m while teammate Tyler Edwards finished 10th.
The distance medley relay group of seniors Jonathan Orelowitz and Marcus Cheema, freshman Ethan Lu and graduate student Scott Masterson earned the final All-UAA finish of the day finishing second with a time of 10:09.00.
Kicking off the running events was Brandstadter and senior Sam Ryba who both took times in the 60m prelims under the UAA and program record times. Fellow senior Jackson Price also had a qualifying time in the event with a fifth place finish. Price and Brandstadter both also qualified for the 200m finals with a first and fourth place finish respectively in the prelims.
Also qualifying for the finals was freshman Ethan Lu and sophomore Sebastian Kou in the 60m Hurdles finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Kou later had a qualifying run in the 400m prelims while freshman Joshua Han also qualified for the finals with a sixth place finish. Finishing the individual prelims was senior Dawit Dean, freshman Ryan McGonigle and graduate student Spencer Watry running qualifying times in the 800m prelims with Dean taking the top spot.
The Eagles will return to the Henry Crown Fieldhouse for the second day of UAA competition on Sunday, March 2.
