The Emory University track and field programs continue their impressive indoor season this weekend at the Camel City Invite in Winston Salem, North Carolina. The Eagles were led by junior
Steven Ditelberg who broke the program record in the pole vault early on Friday.
Ditelberg set the 45
th best height in Division III this season in the pole vault with a mark of 4.55m on Friday good for a third place finish in the event. Freshman
Jack Adler also competed in the event taking 11
th with a height of 3.65m.
Later on the track was the men's 60m prelims with senior
Sam Ryba taking the top time for the Eagles with a 7.02 good for a 12 place finish. Following was freshmen
Ethan Lu (8.68, 12
th) and
Ben Olvey (8.70, 13
th) taking top-15 finishes in the 60m hurdles prelims. Keeping with the sprint groups, junior
Henry Brandstadter took home a fifth place finish in the 200m running a 22.67 followed closely behind by sophomore
Theodore Drye who finished seventh with a time of 22.88. Drye later finished fourth in the 400m with a 51.30 mark followed by a 15
th place finish from freshman
Maxwel Gurkovic (52.25).
The men ended competition with the group of Gurkovic, Bradnstadter, Lu and sophomore
Sebastian Kou finishing second in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:26.74.
Competing on the field for the women today was senior
Caroline Hansen in the long jump who finished in the top-15 with a distance of 5.10m. Teammates
Erin Makhanian (3.35m, 3
rd),
Hannah Riley (3.35m, 5
th) and
Emerson Sobich (3.05m, 7
th) all competed in the pole vault to round out the field events for the Eagles.
Graduate student
Eva Carchidi continued her momentum into the meet taking fourth in the 60m prelims with a time of 7.79 to qualify for the finals. Teammate
Kaya Binetti also qualified for the finals with a seventh place, 7.84 run. They later took fifth and sixth respectively in the finals cutting their times to 7.74 and 7.76. Binetti also competed in the 200m dash later in the day finishing sixth with a time of 25.67.
Graduate student
Nikki Boon followed with a third place finish in the 60m hurdles prelims with a mark of 8.90 before later finishing fourth in the finals with a time of 8.84, the 10
th best time in Division III this season. Freshman
Amaya Grant finished the individual event for the Eagles taking home a ninth place finish in the 400m dash running a 59.67.
The Emory women had two groups compete in the 4x400m relay with the group of Carchidi, Boon and seniors
Audrey Johnson and
Dashiel Tao Harris finishing first with a 3:56.65 time. Following behind them with a fifth place, 4:19.81 run was the group of seniors
Samantha Glass and
Paige Murdock, junior
Sydney Holden and sophomore
Audrey Callahan.
The Eagles will continue competition at the Camel City Invite on Saturday, February 8 with the first event set to begin at 10:00 AM.
