The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's tennis team added another victory over a top-20 program this weekend as the Eagles concluded their trip to Lexington, Virginia for the Groundhog Palooza at Washington & Lee University. After taking down host No. 10 W&L on Saturday, the Eagles dispatched No. 17 Christopher Newport University by a count of 4-0.

In doubles, the Eagles secured the point as they collected match wins on the top two courts. At the No. 1 position, the junior tandem of Iris Berman and Izzy Antanavicius won with a 7-5 verdict and over on court two, senior Eliza McPherron and sophomore Yanire Marte paired for a 6-1 triumph. Newcomers Daniela Livson and Rachel Hernandez saw action on Sunday on the No. 3 line and fell by a 6-3 margin.

As play moved into singles competition, the Eagles needed just three match wins as the teams played to clinch. 

Emory made quick work of the Captains in singles with the Eagles earning straight set wins on three different courts. Match-clinching wins came from the No. 2 through No. 4 spots in the Emory lineup with Antanavicius posting a 6-4, 6-1 score on court two, Berman rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win on court three and Marte matching Antanavicius' set line on court four, 6-4, 6-1.

When play was halted, the Eagles were leading on courts one and five with junior Emily Kantrovitz ahead 7-6 (8), 2-1 on court one and McPherron up 1-0 in set one on court five.

The Eagles, now 3-0 this spring, will return to Atlanta next weekend for a pair of home matches against NC Wesleyan and #18 Sewanee on Feb. 21 and Feb. 23.
