The Emory University track and field team saw competition at both the Bulldog Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Massachusetts on Friday afternoon.
Junior
Steven Ditelberg highlighted the day smashing the pole vault record he se last week at the Camel City Invitational. In his fifth jump of the meet, he completed the 4.67m jump to break his previous record of 4.55m. Freshman
Kevin Zhong kicked things off in the field events with a seventh place finish in the high jump (1.92m) while freshman
Jason Bright (6.39m, 8
th), sophomore
Kofi Igyan (6.37m, 9
th) and freshman
Ohene Dah (6.32m, 10
th) all took top-10 finishes in the long jump. Bright also earned a seventh place finish in the triple jump (12.29m) to conclude the jump events.
Three Eagles saw top-15 finishes in the shot put with freshman
Ari Klasky (14.34m, 11
th) and sophomores
Rohan Vasandani (12.73m, 14
th) and
Tyler Edwards (12.70m, 15
th) all competing in the event. Edwards and Klasky later finished in the top-15 in the weight throw with 13.90m and 13.76m marks respectively.
Senior
Sam Ryba got things started on the track for the men qualifying for the 60m finals with a 6.97, third place finish in the prelims before later taking seventh in the finals with a time of 7.01. Teammate
Ethan Lu followed with a qualifying time of 8.63 in the 60m hurdles and finished eighth in the finals (8.76). Senior
Jackson Price started the long sprints running a 22.15 in the 200m for a 10
th place finish while sophomore teammate
Theodore Drye took home a fifth place finish in the 400m with a 49.31 time.
Starting the distance events for the men was freshman
Ryan McGonigle taking seventh with a 1:54.99 time. He was followed by senior
Ben Zamler taking 10
th with a time of 1:57.49. Four Eagles finished in the top five in the mile with senior
Jonathan Orelowitz (4:17.99, 2
nd) and sophomore
Kirin Karver (4:21.58, 5
th) taking the two best times for Emory. Teammates
Dalton Lowery and
Nikhil Makker both later competed in the 3000m run finishing second and fourth respectively. Sophomore
Olin Gilster (14:52.36, 3
rd) and junior
Lucas Moskovitz (15:14.48, 5
th) rounded out the distance events with top-five finishes in the 5000m run.
Teammates
Dawit Dean and
Scott Masterson both competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational against Division I opponents. Dean ran one of his best times in the 800m at the event finishing 68
th out of 232 runners with a time of 1:52.53. Masterson also ran an impressive time in the mile finishing 255
th out of 354 runners with a time of 4:15.60.
The first female field competitor to take a top-15 finish was freshman
Anna Jennings who took a 15
th place finish in the long jump with a mark of 4.93m. Teammates
Erin Makhanian and
Hannah Riley finished in a tie for 13
th in the pole vault jumping a 3.22m mark. The jump events ended with graduate student
Nikki Boon (11.25m, 3
rd) and sophomores
Dijaye Carpenter (10.37m, 7
th) and
Elsa Bildtsen (10.25m, 8
th) competing in the triple jump.
For the throwers, senior
Sarah Fineman kicked things off taking a third place finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.34m followed by top-15 finishes from freshmen
Jeanette Hydukovich (11.54m, 9
th) and
Janelle Bobb (10.33m, 15
th). Hydukovich (10.25m, 12
th) and Bobb (9.09m, 14
th) as well as senior
Kylie Hanson (11.50m, 11
th) finished the day in the weight throw.
Senior
Maura Dianno started the sprints for the Emory women qualifying for the 60m finals with a time of 7.85 before taking fifth in the finals with a mark of 7.84. Graduate student
Eva Carchidi continued her impressive season finishing fifth in the 200m dash running a 25.04. In the 400m, Senior
Dashiel Tao Harris (58.58) and freshman
Amaya Grant (59.37) both took top-10 finishes followed by more top-10 finishes in the 800m from freshman
Rowan Miller (2:17.31) and juniors
Madison Tiaffay (2:22.54) and
Payton Sullivan (2:23.72).
Tiaffay later took the top spot in the mile event running a 4:59.25. Teammates
Payton Fleming (5:10.34),
Avery McAdams (5:15.61) and
Sophia Powell (5:20.65) finished third, fifth and 10
th respectively. Rounding out the distance events was freshman
Davis Johnson who ran a fifth place, 17:27.87 time in the 5000m setting the Bulldog Invitational record.
Tomorrow, February 15, senior
Liesl Scherrer will be the lone Eagle competing as she will be running in the 5000m run at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational at 6:30 PM.
