Men’s Golf Announces Appointment of Sarah Butler as New Assistant Coach

The Emory men's golf program has announced the appointment of Sarah Butler as Assistant Coach, Head Coach John Sjoberg announced. Butler comes to Emory with two decades of experience in collegiate and professional golf, most recently serving as a caddie on the LPGA Tour. Sjoberg cited her wealth of experience being a welcome addition to the men's golf program.

"We are excited for Sarah to join us this spring," Sjoberg said. "She brings great experience caddying on the LPGA tour and has several years of college coaching. Having a tour win and 5 years of caddying for some of the best in the world, she will bring a wealth of knowledge to our program. She will be a great asset to our guys both on and off the course. We are looking forward to getting started this spring."

Since joining the tour as a caddie in 2021, Butler has been on the bag for the likes of Lindy Duncan, Cydney Clanton, Katherine Kirk, Sarah Jane Smith, Joy Chou, Kristy McPherson, Elizabeth Szokol, and most recently Sarah Kemp. Butler helped Szokol navigate the course at Midland Country Club in the Dow Great Lakes Invitational in July 2023, where the two made a trip to the winner's circle.

Prior to her time as a caddie on the LPGA, Butler served as an Assistant Coach for the women's golf teams at Old Dominion, Iowa State, and Colorado State. Spending five seasons with the Cyclones at Iowa State from 2015 to 2019, Butler helped oversee four postseason berths, including a program-best second-place finish at the Big 12 Championships in 2017. Under Butler's supervision, Iowa State produced a pair of First Team All-Big 12 performers.

Before her time at Iowa State, Butler helped produce a C-USA Freshman of the Year as well as a pair of All C-USA honorees in her lone season as the Assistant Coach at Old Dominion in 2014-15. Butler joins a program with a history of excellence and looks forward to helping elevate the team to new heights.

"I'm very excited to join Emory University as the assistant men's golf coach," Butler said. "I'd like to thank John Sjoberg and Keiko Price for their help throughout the process. Emory Athletics has a longstanding history of success, and I look forward to bringing my experiences to the team!"

Butler spent four years playing professionally from 2007-10 before joining the coaching ranks, competing in the CN Canadian Women's Tour where she posted multiple top-10 finishes. She played collegiately at the University of Minnesota, serving as a co-captain during her junior and senior seasons. Butler earned a degree in communication studies from Minnesota in 2006.
