The Emory University women's tennis program opened the ITA South Regional on a high note seeing Eagles compete in both singles and doubles in Mount Berry, Georgia.
Eight Eagles competed in both main draws of singles and doubles and all singles matches were won in straight set decisions. The Round of 32 singles scoring was scored similarly to doubles matches.
Junior
Emily Kantrovitz opened things up at the Fall Regional with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Centre College before defeating Sewanee with an 8-3 line. Fellow junior
Iris Berman also posted two wins on the day posting a win against Millsaps College (6-0, 6-0) in the opening round followed by an 8-0 victory against North Carolina Wesleyan.
Rounding out the singles competition for the juniors was
Izzy Antanavicius who took wins against Berry College (6-0, 6-1) and Centre College (8-2). Also returning to the court for Emory in her second season is
Yanire Marte who posted an opening round win over Piedmont (6-0, 6-0) and an 8-1 win over North Carolina. Senior
Eliza McPherron continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Hendrix College and an 8-1 win over Sewanee.
Three new Eagles saw competition for the first time in the blue and gold starting with freshman
Rachel Hernandez who notched wins against Millsaps College (6-0, 6-0) in the first round and Berry College in the second round (8-0). Sophomore
Riyah Dugar also had a strong showing in her first tournament taking a 6-1, 6-0 victory in round one against Centre College and an 8-3 line against Berry in the second round. Graduate student
Dakota Fordham finished things for Emory in singles advancing to the second round after her opponent was injured and followed with an 8-2 win against Millsaps in round two.
The doubles competition was just as strong taking on two rounds of competition. Hernandez and Dugar finished with wins against Methodist University (8-3) and Centre College (8-1). Kantrovitz and Fordham teamed up for the second time this season taking an 8-0 win against Berry followed by an 8-1 decision against Piedmont.
Also teaming up again was McPherron and Marte winning their first matchup against Hendrix with an 8-0 line and their second round matchup against Sewanee (8-2). Rounding out the doubles competition was Berman and Antanavicius with wins against Rhodes College (8-1) and Piedmont (8-2).
The Eagles will return to the court on Sunday, September 29 for more competition with the first match set for 8:00 AM.
