Eagles Walk-Off Wooster Fighting Scots in Thursday Thriller; Take Game One 4-3

The Emory University baseball team delivered the walk-off win on Thursday afternoon defeating the Wooster Fighting Scots 4-3 at Chappell Park in Atlanta. Entering the ninth inning down 3-2, an error from Wooster's defense aided the Eagles in the thrilling win.

Senior Jacob Grossman and junior Blake Dincman paced the Eagles' offense combining for four of the team's six hits while Dincman brought in two RBI for the team. Graduate student Nick Wilson delivered the walk-off knock after reaching first on a fielder's choice while junior Bennett Speicher started on the mound for the Eagles posting six strikeouts, his second best this season.

After Speicher started the game with three quick outs, the Eagles struck first in the bottom half of the inning with Grossman leading things off with a single to center field. After a walk from junior Jack Halloran, Dincman brought in the first run of the game with a single up the middle to score Grossman.

The next two innings were quiet from both sides with each pitcher seeing three quick outs keeping the game scoreless until the fourth inning. The Scots were the next to strike posting three singles in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game 1-1. The Eagles were able to get a runner in scoring position in the bottom half of the inning but were not able to capitalize on the momentum. 

Later in the bottom of the sixth inning, Emory took their second lead of the game with junior Matthew Sicoli starting the inning with a double to left-center field. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, Sicoli scored the Eagles' second run of the game on a single from Dincman.

The Scots answered with hot bats in the top of the eighth inning notching a home run to right field to tie the game 2-2 before a single up the middle gave Wooster a 3-2 lead after seven and a half innings.

After a walk and a hit by pitch to start the bottom of the ninth, the Eagles were able to get two runners in scoring position before making offensive changes on the basepaths. Emory ended the game on a fielder's choice from Wilson while Dincman and freshman Aidan Conley was able to score on a throwing error from the Scots' defense.

The Eagles and Scots will face off again on Saturday, March 23 at 12:00 PM at Chappell Park in Atlanta.
