The Emory University baseball team fell in the University Athletic Association finale Sunday afternoon by a score of 7-5 to Brandeis University at Chappell Park in Atlanta.
Junior Jake Lawson highlighted the Emory offense with a four-RBI performance at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch and stolen base. Freshman Mario Borges joined him with a multi-hit effort as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The Eagles were clicking to start the afternoon with three runs crossing home plate through two innings to lead 3-1. A Brandeis error led to Emory's first run in the first before Lawson connected on a single to left center in the second to score a pair in Borges and senior Cam Newell.
The Judges' reliever, John Milewski, entered the game to start the third and proceeded to hold the Eagles off the scoreboard for the next five frames to allow the visitors to grab a 6-3 lead at the end of seven in Atlanta.
Brandeis tacked on another run in the top of the eighth prior to the Eagles stopping the scoring draught in the bottom of the inning where Lawson picked up another two-run single to cut the deficit to 7-5 going into the ninth.
Despite cutting the margin to two, the Eagles were unable to put together another rally in the ninth as Brady Lane sent down the Emory bats in order for the save.
Emory finishes the UAA slate with a 9-11 record and will look to close out the 2026 season this Tuesday night with a visit to neighbor Oglethorpe University. First pitch for the season finale is set for 6:00 PM in Brookhaven.
