The Emory University women's swimming & diving team maintained its lead at the UAA Championships following a Friday where the team captured two event titles and totaled six All-UAA efforts.
Through three days of competition, the Eagles hold a 59.5-point edge over host Chicago, leading the Maroons 1,188-1,128.5 points. NYU stands in third after Friday with 1,039 points.
Senior Megan Jungers headlined the Eagles on night three as she won her second straight conference crown in the 100 Backstroke and was runner-up in the 100 Fly. She also was part of the Eagles' first relay championship of the meet, teaming with junior Ali Kaiser, freshman Maren McDonald and sophomore Jane Sanderson for the 200 Medley Relay win with a time of 1:42.35
In the 100 Back, Jungers was one of four Eagles in the A final as Emory bolstered its lead over the Maroons. Jungers took gold with a winning time of 54.24 with Thursday's standout, sophomore Isabel Huang, placing third at 55.88. Sophomore Penny Celtnieks touched just a fingertip behind Huang at 55.90 for fourth while Sanderson took eighth at 58.05.
After seeing top finishes put forth by senior Tess Klugherz in the 3-meter dive (5th, 450.05) and freshman Meredith Teague in the 400 IM (6th, 4:29.12) top open the evening session, Jungers was Emory's first All-UAA performance of the night with her silver medal effort in the 100 Fly at 55.33. The Eagles also saw junior Caroline Zhu (4th, 55.99) and McDonald (5th, 56.04) reach the A final whereas junior Rosalie Gaudiani represented the Eagles in the consolation final, taking 11th at 56.37.
Emory registered two more runner-up showings on Friday with senior Penelope Helm touching second in the 200 Freestyle at 1:46.87 and freshman Katie Cohen doing the same in the 100 Breaststroke at 1:03.61. Helm was one of five Eagles to finish inside the top-17 in the 200 Free with Cohen pacing four Eagles in the A final of the 100 Breast.
Emory will look to capture its 25th consecutive UAA championship, and 31st overall in program history, on Saturday with a final day featuring the 200 Backstroke, 100 Freestyle, 1650 Freestyle, 200 Breaststroke, 200 Fly, men's 3-meter diving and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
