The Emory University women's swimming and diving team participated in the third and final day of the Denison Invitational on Saturday, posting a new program record in the 200 Fly, 14 B Cuts, and one individual event win to take first at the three-day meet with 1,979 points. Following Emory was Denison (1,645.5), the University of Indianapolis (1,478), Eastern Michigan (1,088.5), and WashU (1,031). The event was held at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center.
It was a newcomer that stole the show for Emory on Saturday. Freshman
Elodie Mitchell narrowly lost out on an event win in the 200 Fly, but still recorded a new program record with a time of 2:00.25.
The day got started with the 1650 Free and a trio of Eagles posted NCAA qualifying times. Juniors
Morgan Main and
Meredith Liu along with senior
Jada Chatoor all finished in the top six for Emory. Main came in second, with a time of 16:59.47, Liu in fourth with a time of 17:14.69, and Chatoor sixth at 17:18.39.
Emory received strong performances from their freshmen duo of
Louisa Wendt and
Caitlin Crysel on Saturday. The two took the top spots while posting B Cuts in the 100 Free, with Crysel touching first with a time of 51.04 and Wendt right behind with a time of 51.11 and in second. Crysel's win was Emory's lone individual win of the evening.
Another freshman,
Allison Greeneway, continued her strong weekend with another B Cut, this time coming in the 200 Back. She touched second with a time of 2:00.12. Graduate student
Megan Jungers also posted a B Cut in the 200 Back, coming in fourth with a time of 2:02.63.
Three more Eagles saw three more B Cuts in the 200 Breast, with sophomore
Katie Cohen leading the way. Cohen finished in second place, with a time of 2:15.66, and was followed by her a pair of freshmen as
Maddy Lu came in fifth with a time of 2:18.46 and
Sophia Joos in sixth with a time of 2:19.75.
The Eagles posted two qualifying times in the final event of the meet, the 400 Free Relay. Sophomores
Meredith Teague, Maren McDonald, and
Natalie Boorjian alongside senior
Ava Kennedy came in third with a time of 3:27.59. Coming in right behind in fourth with a time of 3:28.63 were juniors
Penny Celtnieks and
Jane Sanderson alongside a pair of freshmen
Stephanie Lee and Mitchell.
The Eagles will now take the next several weeks to regroup before starting their slate of meets in the new year. Emory will be back in the pool for a dual meet against Berry on January 18
th. The meet will also serve as the program's Senior Day.
