The Emory women's swimming team continued competition at the Denison Invitational on Friday evening, putting together another very strong performance. The Eagles posted 18 NCAA B Cuts on Friday, helping them maintain their first-place position. Emory leads the pack with 1,297 points to hold leads over Denison, the University of Indianapolis, Eastern Michigan, and WashU. The event was held at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center.
The Eagles got things started with a dominating performance in the 200 Medley Relay, with three different relay teams posting B Cuts and finishing in the top seven. Leading the way was graduate student
Megan Jungers, sophomore
Katie Cohen, and freshmen
Allison Greeneway and
Caitlin Crysel with a third place finish with a time of 1:42.15.
Emory posted three more B Cuts in the 800 Free Relay, with one foursome taking the top spot. Graduate student
Penelope Helm alongside underclassmen
Meredith Teague, Elodie Mitchell, and
Louisa Wendt finished first with a time of 7:24.89.
Greeneway was once again stealing the show. On top of her impressive performance in the relays, the rookie took the top spot in the 100 Fly with a time of 54.48 – just three-tenths of a second off the program record. This was the Eagles' only individual win of the evening. Fellow freshman, Crysel, was close behind finishing fourth with a B Cut time of 55.86.
The Eagles saw three Eagles come in with B Cuts in the 200 Free as well, with Mitchell, Helm, and Teague coming in third through fifth, respectively. The three came in within instances of one another, with Mitchell at 1:51.10, Helm at 1:51.35, and Teague at 1:51.45.
Emory saw three more B Cuts in the 100 Back as Jungers, junior
Penny Celtnieks, and Greeneway came in fourth through sixth. Jungers clocked in at 56.15, Celtnieks at 56.20, and Greeneway at 56.21.
Rounding out the solid impressive individual performances was Cohen and freshman
Maddy Lu in the 100 Breast. The two came in fifth and eighth, respectively, with times worthy of NCAA B Cuts.
The Eagles will look to close out the Denison Invitational strong on Saturday. Emory will be back in the pool tomorrow starting at 10:00 AM for prelims before starting the finals at 6:00 PM.
