Men’s Soccer Headed to Lynchburg for NCAA Opening Rounds

For the second consecutive season, the Emory men's soccer team is heading to the NCAA Tournament after posting a dominant 5-1-1 record in conference play and securing the UAA's automatic bid. The NCAA released the 2024 bracket on Monday afternoon, sending the Eagles to Lynchburg, Virginia for the regional round.

Emory draws the regional host, #20 Lynchburg (12-3-4) in the opening round. Lynchburg is coming off a season in which they dominated the ODAC, posting a 7-1-2 in the competitive conference. They went on to finish as the conference's runner-up after falling to #18 Washington & Lee, 1-0, in the championship match.

Lynchburg owns one of the nation's top defenses, holding opponents to just 0.53 goals per game, the ninth best mark in the nation. Yet, the Eagles have experience against this Lynchburg squad, having squared off at a neutral site in early September. Emory fell behind early when the Hornets notched a goal in the 7th minute but went on to rally and score two goals in the final 12 minutes of the contest to win, 2-1. This was one of two instances that the Hornets surrendered more than one goal in a match all season. The first-round clash with the Hornets is set to kickoff at 3:30 PM on Saturday, November 16th.
