Men's Soccer Completes Unbeaten Homestand; Defeats Sewanee 1-0

Box Score

The No. 19 ranked Emory University men's soccer team closed out its homestand with another win Sunday afternoon, defeating regional foe Sewanee by a 1-0 margin.

Freshman Nick Carrano logged his first career goal to lead the Eagles to their sixth win of the season. With the win, Emory now stands at 6-1-2 as it heads into the start of conference play next weekend.

An evenly played match throughout was decided in the final minutes of the first half when Carrano redirected a centering pass from graduate student Thomas Toney at the 42:51 mark to give the Eagles all the support they would need. Sophomore Mason Bradford set the play up with a touch pass out wide to Toney who in turned one-timed into the box where Carrano pushed it to the back of the net.

For the game, the Eagles outshot Sewanee 16-10 with six shots on goal including four from senior Joe Beare.

Fellow senior Peter Wagner continued his strong campaign, once again notching a clean sheet with a four-save outing. Through nine games, Wagner and the Emory backline have recorded five shutouts.

The Eagles will look to continue its three-match winning streak next Sunday, October 1, with a road tilt with UAA rival WashU in St. Louis. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 PM EST.
