Men's Soccer Win Streak Halted by Top-Ranked Mary Washington

The No. 25 ranked Emory University men's soccer team was handed its first loss of the 2023 season Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 1 ranked Mary Washington, 1-0, in the Simms/Flowers Classic at City Stadium in Richmond, Virginia.

With their three-game winning streak snapped, the Eagles slip to 3-1-2 while the Eagles of UMW stay unbeaten on the season and improve to 6-0 following the one-goal victory.

The decisive goal on the afternoon came in the early stages of the contest as Carter Berg scored off the Nelsar Castillo pass in the 18th minute.

Emory was outshot in the game 19-13 and 9-4 in shots on goal. Senior Peter Wagner made a career-high eight saves in the defeat.

The Eagles will return to Atlanta to start a three-match homestand this week, beginning Wednesday night against Birmingham-Southern. Kickoff with the Panthers is set for 7:30pm at the WoodPEC.
