Emory Women in Second, Men in Third Following Day 1 of SCAD Invite

The Emory University swimming and diving programs sent members of their teams to three different parts of the country this weekend for three winter invitationals at Denison, SCAD and MIT. Competition began Thursday for the swimmers at Savannah with an evening session to open the three-day meet.

For the swimmers at SCAD, the Eagles saw themselves in second place on the women's side of action with Emory recording 200 points on the first night of events. For the men, the Eagles stand third through five events with 187.5 points. Joining Emory in the pool for the SCAD Invite are Wingate, Berry, SCAD and South Georgia State College men.

Sophomore Morgan Main came through with the lone event win for either Emory team on Thursday as she touched first in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:01.75 while classmate Claire DePiero added a second place showing to lead the Eagles in the 50 Freestyle at 23.81. Juniors Sarah Daly and Ava Kennedy posted fourth-place efforts with Daly in the 500 Freestyle (5:03.98) and Kennedy in the sprint (24.19). Freshman Sammy McClintock had a sixth place finish in the 50 Free at 24.28 and junior Mollie Folk placed ninth in the 200 IM at 2:11.11 to round out the top individual finishers for the women.

McClintock was also part of the 200 Medley Relay team that took silver for the Eagles as she teamed up with junior Maddie Palatt, senior Marissa Spies and sophomore Lily Consiglio for a time of 1:48.07.

Senior Kory Kimura highlighted the men's team with his second place effort in the 500 Free (4:31.99). In the 200 IM, freshman Lukas Fu (3rd, 1:52.33) and senior Chris Dieffenthaller (4th, 1:52.34) shined for the Eagles and in the 50 Freestyle, junior Dylan Yin led the way with a bronze place finish at 20.93 with junior Nolan Lahmann touching behind him in sixth at 21.18.

In the relay, Lahmann, Yin, junior Yubo Jin and sophomore Gary Wang posted a time of 1:31.64 to help Emory's A team to a third place finish in the 200 Medley.

The SCAD Invitational continues on Friday with prelims at 10:00 AM followed by the finals at 6:00 PM.
