Box Score The Emory University men's soccer team is moving onto the second round of the NCAA Championships after prevailing 3-0 over Brevard College Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Eagles scored three goals over a 5:22 span in the second half to down the Tornadoes for the second time this season. Emory, now 12-3-3 on the season, advances to face No. 16 Colorado College on Sunday for a spot in the Sweet 16. The Tigers rallied for three unanswered goals to defeat Oglethorpe University, 3-2, in the second first round match at the WoodPEC.
Sophomore Josh Grand broke the scoreless tie as he one-timed a rebound for the game's first goal at the 62:04 mark. Junior Sebastian Rincon rifled a shot to the near post that was saved, but the carom found Grand in the middle of the 18 who converted into the empty net.
Graduate student Colton Myers made it 2-0 just 67 seconds later as he delivered a perfect rainbow shot over the Brevard keeper who strayed too far off his line. The goal was Myers' team-leading ninth of the season while freshman Michael Constant collected his first collegiate point with the long pass.
Junior Ryan Hayes concluded the Eagles' onslaught with an absolute spectacular goal in the 68th minute. Myers put a centering pass to the top of the six-yard box, finding a sliding Hayes who cashed in with his third goal of the season.
For the game, the Eagles outshot Brevard by a 20-5 margin and held the Tornadoes to just one shot on target across the 90 minutes. Senior Peter Wagner made a stop on the one shot that came his way to record his eighth clean sheet of the year.
The NCAA Second Round matchup between Emory and Colorado College is set to kick off at 3:00 PM on Sunday in Atlanta.
