Men's Soccer Keeps Rolling with 4-2 Win Over Brandeis on Senior Night

Box Score

The No. 7 ranked Emory University men's soccer team moved one step closer to clinching the University Athletic Association championship, defeating Brandeis University 4-2 Friday night in front of a packed WoodPEC crowd in Atlanta.

Prior to the start of the match, the Eagles honored their nine-member graduating class of Jake Atallah, Joe Beare, Alejandro Gomez, Colton Myers, Alex Mills, Parker Morford, Cobi Promislow, Thomas Toney and Peter Wagner with a special on-field senior night ceremony.

With the win, the Eagles now stand 4-0 in UAA play with a chance to clinch a share of the conference title on Sunday, hosting second place NYU (5-5-2, 3-1) at 1:30 PM.

Emory took advantage of the home field energy, scoring just two minutes into the game when Myers and sophomore Josh Grand synced up for the perfectly executed goal. Myers played a volley off his chest to Grand who then dished it back to Myers who then slotted it to the far post.

The Judges responded though, scoring their first goal of the evening at the 17:37 mark when Roee Maor stole possession before sneaking a shot under a diving Wagner.

From there the Eagles notched three straight tallies to lay claim to a commanding 4-1 lead. Atallah put Emory ahead in the 28th minute, heading in a Gomez corner kick. Freshman Nick Carrano rounded out the first half scoring in the 40th minute, knocking in a rebound following an Attila Sepkin shot that was turned away by the Brandeis keeper.

The score remained 3-1 until the 63rd minute when freshman Turner MacInnis recorded his second goal of the season, firing a shot to the far post off the Mills' feed.

Brandeis got one back in the 70th minute when Maddox Yu tapped in a Juan Vera cross, however the Emory defense did not allow another score for the final 20 minutes to pick up the team's 10th win of the season. This marks the first time the Eagles have reached 10 wins in a season since 2017 and the second time during the Cory Greiner era.
