Emory Softball Takes Pair From Washington University

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The Emory softball team received a pair of sterling pitching performances en route to registering a Friday afternoon doubleheader sweep over Washington University.  The Eagles notched back-to-back shutouts against the Bears, capturing the opener by a 5-0 count before posting a 7-0 decision in the finale.  Emory stands 21-9 in overall play, 4-2 in the University Athletic Association while WU slips to 11-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.

GAME 1 – EMORY 5, WASH U 0
**
Sophomore Toko Miller tosses a complete-game shutout in running her record to 5-3 on the year, allowing five hits and striking out five.
**
Miller sits WU down in 1-2-3 fashion in second, sixth and seventh innings, and retires the last seven consecutive Bear batters.
**
WU loads the bases with one out in the top of the first, but Miller escapes the jam.
** Sophomores Cassie Baca and Sarah Flanders each collect a pair of hits, with Baca scoring a run.
** Emory accounts for all of the game's scoring with a five-run eruption in the bottom of the third, sending 10 batters to the plate and registering six hits.
** Freshman Jessie Michael and senior Amy Wray deliver run-producing singles to account for the Eagles' first two scores while junior Janelle Turnquest plates a pair of runners with a single.  Freshman Kinsey Glasgow drives in the final run with her single allowing Turnquest to cross the plate.

GAME 2 – EMORY 7, WASH U 0
** Toko Miller and senior Brittany File combine for a five-hit shutout in helping the Eagles to their fourth straight and sixth win in the last seven outings.
** Miller goes the first two frames before giving way to File, who earns the win after going five strong frames, allowing four hits and striking out five.
** File has a 9-4 record in the circle this season and now owns 72 wins during her Emory career, just one shy of tying the No. 1 mark of 73 held by Nicole Kovski (2001-04).
** The Eagles pound out 10 hits with Baca, Taylor Forte and Glasgow picking up a pair of safeties.
** Holding a 2-0 lead after one inning, Emory puts five runs up in its half of the second with Michael coming through with the key blow, a three-run double that scores Baca, Glasgow and sophomore Lana Herrmann.  Amy Wray knocks run home with a double.
** Michael has a team-leading nine multi-RBI games this year and has driven runs in seven of her last eight contests.

Emory closes out the four-game series with Wash U on Saturday with a twinbill that starts at 1:00 pm.
