Freshman Jessie Michael went a combined 4-of-5 at the plate and sophomore Toko Miller tossed a shutout in the second in game sparking the Emory softball team to a Sunday afternoon sweep of a doubleheader against Centre College.  The No. 18-ranked Eagles upped their record to 13-7 after coming away with a 6-4 win followed by a five-inning, 8-0 decision over the Colonels who slipped to 11-9.

Miller retired the first 14 Centre batters she faced, eventually allowing a pair of singles in the top of the fifth.  Miller struck out three and did not issue any walks in evening her record to 2-2.  Michael collected three hits in as many trips to the plate in the finale, and gave Emory a 1-0 lead when she led off the second with her first home of her career. Run-producing singles by senior Amy Wray and Michael the following frame boosted Emory's lead to 3-0.  After a scoreless fourth, Emory exploded for five runs.  Michael led off with a two-bagger and scored when freshman Kinsey Glasgow delivered a pinch-hit single. After Janelle Turnquest scored on a wild pitch, senior left fielder Taylor Forte doubled to left field, her third hit of the contest, pushing across two more runs.  Freshman Sarah Katz closed out the game with a sacrifice fly that plated sophomore Cassie Baca.

In the opener, sophomore right fielder Sam Vincent picked up two hits and scored a run while Michael and Baca both recorded two RBIs. Emory scored four runs in the third after the first two batters were retired. Back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Jessy McLean and Wray accounted for the first two runs while Michael singled in the final two. The Eagles extended their lead to 6-0 when a one-out double by Baca pushed across junior Ashley Powers and Vincent.  Trailing by a 6-1 count heading into their final at-bat, Centre scored three runs and had the bases loaded with two outs before senior pitcher Brittany File came on in relief to quell the uprising with a strikeout, which allowed her to earn her second save of the campaign.  Junior Audrey Weller recorded the win, her second in three outings, tossing a total of four scoreless innings and striking out a pair.  

Emory returns to action on Tuesday (Mar. 21), when it hosts Maryville College in a twinbill starting at 2:30 pm.
