Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Emory softball team won for the third time in as many outings at the William Peace Triangle Classic, posting a Sunday morning victory over Piedmont College. The Eagles raised their record to 8-3 following an 8-1 decision over the Lions who slipped to 7-6.
Senior pitcher Brittany File raised her record to 5-1 this spring, hurling the first six innings, allowing one unearned run and two hits while striking out nine. Sophomore Madeline Maday went the final frame.
Senior Amy Wray and sophomore Sam Vincent each hit safely twice, with each player scoring once while Vincent also drove in one run. Emory finished with eight hits while Piedmont had two.
Emory got on the board in its half of the second when freshman Jessy McLean scored on a two-out passed ball. Piedmont knotted the score with an unearned run as a result of a couple of Emory fielding miscues in the bottom of the third. However, the Eagles blew the game wide open in the top of the fourth with a seven-run frame. Freshman Jessie Michael and Vincent each came through with RBI singles, followed by a Piedmont error that plated two more Emory runners. Sophomore Cassie Baca then delivered a three-run homer, her first round tripper of the year, which closed out the game's scoring.
Emory winds up play at the Triangle Classic, starting with a 2:15 pm contest vs. Averett University. Fans can keep track of that game by going to:
