File Fans Last Batter Of The Game In Recording No-Hitter vs. Huntingdon

Junior Brittany File's no-hitter against Huntingdon College highlighted a successful day of action as the Emory softball team opened the 2016 with a pair of home wins. Hosting the 3n2 Elite Event, the Eagles pasted Agnes Scott College, 19-1, in five innings in the opener before File tossed her gem in a 7-0 decision over Huntingdon College.

File was in complete control in the circle against the Hawks, fanning 14 batters, which represented her third-highest career total and tying for fourth on the school's single-game ladder. Junior left fielder Taylor Forte went 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs, including a double that knocked in Jenna Wilson in the bottom of the first.  Forte tripled in two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as part of a five-run uprising that blew the game wide open.  Junior right fielder Amy Wray doubled in the first two runs in the sixth that scored pinch runner Raygan Greer and freshman Lana Herrmann. File's performance marked her second career seven-inning no hitter and was almost a year ago to the day that she turned in a five-inning perfect game in a 10-0 win over Rhodes College (Feb. 14, 2015).

In the opener, Emory peppered a trio of ASC pitchers for 17 hits, including three by Forte, while a total of five Eagles finished with two or more safeties. Emory erupted for six runs in its half of the first, with senior Melody Carter delivering the key blow with a two-run double that put the Emory up, 5-0.  After tacking on two more runs in the third, Emory blitzed the Scotties with an 11-run fourth that saw Herrmann sock a three-run double.

Emory closes out the 3n2 Elite Event on Sunday when it plays Huntingdon at 10:00 a.m., and Agnes Scott at 2:00 p.m.
