Centre Hands Emory Men's Soccer 1-0 Loss in Double OT

Box Score

After a lightning delay pushed back the start of the game for more than hour, the 23rd-ranked Emory's University men's soccer team fell 1-0 in double overtime in the first game of the Bob Allen Nissan Classic against the host school, Centre College.

After Abe Hannigan saved a shot by Alexander Garuba, the rebound found Christian Gateskill who buried it into the back of the net in the 103rd minute to give the Colonels the one goal victory. Hannigan was great in the contest despite being handed his second loss of the year as the senior saved a season-high 10 shots. Centre goalie Bailey Spade made seven saves during the match.

The Eagles outshot the Colonels 18-17 but Centre had 11 on goal compared to Emory's seven. Sebastian Hardington had a team-high three shots on target and Gabriel Vasconcelos had two shots on goal off the bench for the Blue and Gold.

Emory will look to snap their current two game skid as they take on Spalding in the second game of the Bob Allen Nissan Classic at Centre College. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 4:30pm.
