Box Score 2 The Emory softball team closed out a busy week of action with a split of a Saturday home doubleheader against Birmingham Southern College. The No. 9-ranked Eagles opened with a 5-2 victory before the Panthers posted a 7-0 triumph in the nightcap. Emory is now 26-4 in overall play while BSC is 22-6-1.
Birmingham Southern 7, Emory 0 – Emory suffers its first home loss in 16 decisions as BSC pitcher Taylor Harkins tosses a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits and striking out seven … BSC snaps a 0-0 deadlock with a four-run fourth inning … With a runner on third and two out, the Panthers receive three straight walks to score their first run … Bethany Fronk then delivers a two-run single to account for the next two BSC runs … Micaela Beck singles in BSC's final run of the frame … The Panthers score once in the fifth and cross the plate twice in the sixth … After giving up a single to Ashley Powers in the second, Harkins retires 16 straight Eagles before Tara Fallahee singles with two out in the seventh.
Emory 5, Birmingham Southern 2 – Tara Fallahee and Micah Scharff both collect two hits with Fallahee contributing three RBIs and Scharff a pair of runs scored … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File snags the win in a relief capacity, hurling 3 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and fanning nine batters … After BSC claims a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, the Eagles counter with a two-run homer by junior Hannah Sendel, her team-leading 11th round tripper of the season, in the bottom of the inning to go up by a run … The Panthers tie the score in their half of the fourth, but Emory takes the lead for good in the fifth when Fallahee doubles in Scharff, who led off the inning with a two-bagger … Fallahee gives Emory some insurance in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out single that pushes in a pair of runs … It is Fallahee's 11th multiple-hit contest of the season.
Emory returns to action on Tuesday, Apr. 7, when it hosts North Alabama in a doubleheader starting at 3:00 pm.
