Emory Softball Sweeps Doubleheader At Maryville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The No. 8-ranked Emory softball team closed out the regular-season portion of its schedule Friday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep at Maryville College.  The Eagles topped the Lady Scots in the opener by a 3-1 count in eight innings, before coming away with a five-inning, 13-4 triumph in the finale.  The two wins boost Emory's record to 31-7 and represents the program's fifth straight season of 30 or more victories.

Emory 13, Maryville 4 (5 inn.) – The Eagles explode for their 10th double-figure run production contest of the season, pounding out 14 hits over five innings … Among sophomore Amy Wray's two hits is a three-run homer, her fifth of the season, that highlights a six-run second inning … Freshman Gracie Taber socks a two-run home run in the top of the fifth that closes out Emory's scoring for the day … Senior Micah Scharff records her eighth multiple-RBI contest of the year, knocking in three runs and going 2-for-3 at the plate … Freshman Janelle Turnquest goes 2-for-4 and extends her hitting streak to eight games … Junior catcher Melody Carter delivers three hits and scores twice … Emory's two round trippers increases its total to 37 on the year, the second-highest seasonal effort in program history … Sophomore pitcher Brittany File notches her 14th win of the campaign in 18 decisions.

Emory 3, Maryville 1 (8 inn.) – Junior pitcher Sydney Carpenter tosses a complete-game, three-hit gem in moving her season record to 16-3, with her victory total tying for the No. 13 spot on the school's all-time ladder … Emory outhits MC by an 11-3 margin and is paced in that department by sophomore Tara Fallahee who goes 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs … Janelle Turnquest doubles twice in four plate appearances while sophomore Taylor Forte hits safely twice …  Fallahee knocks in Emory's first run of the game with a two-double in the top of the third that allows Forte to cross the plate … After the Lady Scots knot the score in the bottom of the seventh as a result of a leadoff homer by Caitlyn Hogg, Emory puts two runs up in the eighth … Fallahee singles in what proves to be the GWRBI with a single that scores Micah Scharff … Fallahee eventually winds up on third base where she scores, thanks to a single by freshman Ashley Powers.

Emory will find out what awaits it as far as the postseason on May 4 when the NCAA D-III Championships announcement is made at 10:00 a.m. (EDT).
