Box Score The Emory softball team made the most of its only game on Thursday at the University Athletic Association Championships, rolling by the University of Rochester. The No. 8-ranked Eagles raised their overall record to 13-2, 3-2 in the league, following a five-inning, 11-3 triumph over the Yellowjackets, who slipped to 5-3 in overall action, 3-2 in conference play.
Emory 11, Rochester 3 (5 inn.) – Emory's offense totals 11 hits, the program's eighth double-figure effort of the season, while the pitching combination of junior Sydney Carpenter and sophomore Brittany File hold UR to five safeties … Junior Alyssa Pollard goes 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBIs, as she extends her hitting streak to 14 games while boosting her season batting average to .392 … Pollard comes through with a two-run single in the top of the second that accounts for the eventual winning runs … Junior Melody Carter collects two hits, including a three-run homer, her second round tripper of the season, in the top of the first that stakes the Eagles to a 3-0 lead ... Holding a 5-2 advantage, Emory explodes for five runs in the top of the fourth with the key blows being a two-run double by junior Hannah Sendel, her team-leading sixth two-bagger, and a two-run single by freshman Ashley Powers … Carpenter boosts her season record to 7-0 after tossing the first four innings, allowing a couple of runs and striking out three.
Emory resumes action at the UAA Championships on Friday with contests against New York University (10:00 am) and Case Western Reserve (1:00 pm).
