Men's Soccer Plays to 1-1 Tie with Carnegie Mellon

Box Score

The Emory University men's soccer team moved to 7-4-2 overall and 2-1-1 in UAA action following a 1-1 tie with Carnegie Mellon on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, PA.

Matt Sherr dove with full extension near the far post, using his whole 6-2 frame to head in the Christian Meyer corner kick to give the Eagles an early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. The goal was Sherr's third goal of the season.

After applying great offensive pressure during the final minutes, the Tartans finally found the equalizer in the 88th minute as Sean MacPherson scored for CMU. A long service ball by Greg Allen bounced to MacPherson in the middle of box who proceeded to put it past Abe Hannigan with just 2:23 left on the clock. Neither squad had an opportunity in final 143 seconds of regulation.

In the overtime sessions, Carnegie Mellon out shot Emory 4-0 but Hannigan made two saves in the second overtime period on the Tartans two shots on goal to keep the game at 1-1. Hannigan finished with four saves in the contest.

The Eagles also played final 13:25 minutes in overtime down a man as Scott Haley was sent off for receiving his second yellow card of the match. The game was a physical one as 33 fouls were called and nine cards were issued.

Emory returns to action on Wednesday night when Birmingham Southern travels to the Woodruff PE Center. The game against the Panthers is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
