Box Score 2 The Emory softball team closed out a perfect 20-game home stand on Sunday, posting five-inning victories over Spalding and Agnes Scott College, both by 8-0 scores. With the two wins, the Eagles move to 20-0 for the second time in the 16-year history of the program.
After going 7-for-7 at the plate yesterday, sophomore designated player Hannah Sendel continued to blister opposing pitching on Sunday, collecting five hits in six plate appearances and driving in five runs. In the opener, Sendel enjoyed a 3-for-3 performance and knocked in two runs, including the game winner with her solo homer in the bottom of the second inning. Sendel accounted for her second RBI with a single as part of a four-run fourth. Freshman third baseman Tara Fallahee also hit safely three times in as many trips to the plate and finished with three RBIs, two coming on a double in the fourth frame that scored Sendel and senior Claire Bailey. Freshman pitcher Brittany File upped her record to 6-0, hurling all five innings and allowing four hits while striking out seven.
Sendel continued her offensive onslaught in the Agnes Scott contest with her three-run homer, her fourth round tripper of the season, jump starting the Eagles to an eight-run third inning that stood up as the game's only scoring. Freshman Taylor Forte and Bailey each delivered two-run singles in the barrage with Bailey eventually ending with a 3-for-3 showing at the plate. Senior pitcher Amanda Kardys raised her won-lost slate to 13-0 after going all five innings and surrendering just two hits.
Next up for the Eagles are the University Athletic Association Championships, March 11-15, in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Emory enters the UAAs as the four-time defending champion. The Eagles will play two games on Tuesday, tangling with Washington University at 10:00 am before taking on Rochester at 12:30.
